Sue Watson - Glass Artist
Living in Stubbington, a stone’s throw from The Solent, Sue is a dedicated glass artist who fell in love with glass fusion over a decade ago. Her creative journey is rooted in a deep passion for the coast and sea — a passion sparked during her 14-year career at sea as First Officer and later Captain on luxury yachts.
After stepping away from life at sea, Sue initially explored glass fusion as a hobby. However, being after she was made redundant in May 2023, she transformed her passion into a full-time small business. Largely self-taught, Sue has also undertaken several specialist courses, continuously learning new techniques and discovering the magic of what can be achieved with fused glass, it’s truly amazing.
Working with Bullseye Art Glass, Sue creates striking designs by hand-cutting and layering glass before firing it in her kiln (think of it as a giant oven) which then fuses into beautiful, one-of-a-kind creations. Using various forms of glass, from sheet glass, frit, stingers, vitrigraph, powders, paint and murine – she has countless options for creating texture and contrast, which truly comes alive when it reflects and captures light, making each piece a vibrant and dynamic addition to any space, whether it be your home, garden, office, or hall.
Sue’s fully equipped home studio and workshop space houses two kilns and eight workstations, enabling her to run engaging workshops, where students can fully immerse themselves in the process creating beautiful glass art. It’s a hands-on, relaxing, and truly addictive experience. Looking for something unique? Whether it’s a team building day, a WI or art group activity, a birthday celebration, or a hen party – custom workshops can be arranged to suit your needs. Just ask for details!
Collaborating with other local small businesses, Sue also displays some of her pieces on bespoke metal or wooden stands to create unique and eye-catching presentations.
